Dr Jo Farrant

General Practitioner with Extended Role in Dermatology - Hove

Dr Farrant is a highly experienced General Practitioner with over 25 years in clinical practice and currently works as a GP partner at Ouse Valley Practice in Handcross. She has specialised in dermatology for over 15 years working with Sussex Community Dermatology Service where she has developed extensive expertise in managing a wide range of dermatological conditions. Her clinical interests include the diagnosis and management of inflammatory skin disorders, acne, and skin lesion assessment and treatment.

In 2017, Dr Farrant completed the Postgraduate Diploma in Dermatology with distinction from Queen Mary University of London, demonstrating her strong academic foundation in the field. The following year, she further advanced her specialist knowledge with postgraduate dermoscopy training through Cardiff University, completing an intensive three-month program focused on the diagnosis of skin lesions.

She is formally accredited as a GPwER (General Practitioner with Extended Role) in General Dermatology, an accolade jointly awarded by the British Association of Dermatologists (BAD), the Primary Care Dermatology Society (PCDS), and the Royal College of General Practitioners (RCGP). This accreditation reflects her high level of competence and commitment to excellence in dermatological care within the community setting.

Known for her thorough, compassionate, and patient-centred approach, Dr Farrant provides the unique role that specialist GP’s can bring by drawing together both primary care expertise and specialist dermatological care ensuring a holistic approach. Dr Farrant supports medical education in her role as Personal Tutor for Brighton and Sussex Medical School.

Outside work, Dr Farrant has 3 young adult daughters with whom she enjoys travelling and theatre trips with. She is a keen netball player and a reluctant runner with a passion for sewing and quiliting.
