An age spot is also known as a solar lentigo. It is like a permanent freckle and appears on areas that have been sun-damaged from life-long sun-exposure or a single of episode sunburn. It is not cancerous in itself, but it is a marker of sun-damage and we often perform a skin examination to rule out any signs of skin cancer.
As they are associated with life-long sun-exposure, they are considered ageing and disfiguring. We use a combination of laser treatments and/or creams to remove them without leaving a mark. Many patients request age-spot removal and it is very satisfying to treat as patients look more youthful with clear complexions and even skin tone on the backs of their hands.
