Dermal fillers are safe and popular cosmetic treatments for patients wanting to reduce the fine lines and wrinkles on the face giving them a more youthful and refreshed look by plumping the skin. As our body ages, the most visible signs on the face are loss of volume on the cheeks and chin that lead to sagging of the cheeks forming deep folds, marionette lines around the mouth giving a ‘sad look’ and pronounced dark circles under the eyes.
If you have noticed any of the above signs of aging on your face, you may benefit from having Dermal fillers.
At our Laser&Skin clinics we only use the well-established brands of HA (hyaluronic acid) fillers such as Restylane and Juvaderm.
What are Hyaluronic acid (HA) fillers?
Hyaluronic acid (HA) occurs naturally in the skin and it’s the substance that gives plumpness and fullness to our faces. It reduces overtime as we age. Adverse reactions to HA are rare as it is not derived from human or animal tissue like some of the collagen-based (usually permanent) dermal fillers. The results of HA fillers are highly effective, seen immediately, and will gradually wear off over a period of several months.
Are Dermal fillers safe?
Yes. Generally speaking, Dermal fillers are safe treatments when performed by a qualified doctor. They have been popular for a number of years and are widely accepted by medical professionals as a great way to restore volume to the face. As with any injectable treatment, there are of course some potential side-effects, which will always be explained to you in detail at the time of treatment.
You may find that these treatments as well as other injectable treatments are often offered at low cost on the high street or beauty parlours by unqualified personnel as the industry lacks strict regulation. Please do careful research before choosing your cosmetic practitioner. Ensure that the person treating you is either a Dermatologist, a Cosmetic Surgeon or a GP with experience in cosmetic procedures.
At the Laser&Skin clinics all Dermal fillers treatments are performed by highly experienced doctors and all patients are offered a complimentary review appointment at 2 weeks to ensure you are fully satisfied with your new look.
Some famous celebrities look worse after having dermal fillers. Is it possible to achieve a natural look with dermal fillers?
Absolutely yes. They key of acquiring a natural look with dermal fillers is in choosing your practitioner carefully.
When you see some celebrities with a ‘trout pout’ or ‘swollen face’ it is usually because too much filler has been used or the wrong injection technique has been used. As with everything, fillers should be used in moderation, and top up treatments are better than too much product used in one setting.
All the dermatologists at our clinics are highly experienced in dermal fillers and you can be assured you will be given an honest and realistic advice regarding the quantity of fillers needed to achieve the look you want.
Which areas can be treated using dermal fillers?
Face:
Dermal fillers are mainly used on the face to improve hollow cheeks, deep Nasolabial folds, hollow temples, tear troughs (dark circles under eyes), lips, marionette lines on the chin that give the ‘sad look’ and sagging jaw line.
Lips:
Lip fillers are very popular. The two main reasons to have lip fillers is to make them fuller and to improve the lip contour. Lips can be enhanced in a subtle way as well as in a more pronounced way. It comes down to your preference and your doctor will guide you during your consultation.
Back of hands:
HA fillers are excellent in restoring volume and plumpness on the backs of hands.
Female genitals (Labial puff):
This is an increasingly popular, non-surgical vaginal rejuvenation technique using HA fillers. Many women, over time develop deflation of the labia majora (big lips of the vulva). Women often notice the labia becoming saggy and wrinkly after menopause and childbirth. Dermal fillers in the labia majora and/or over the pubic bone give the vulva a more youthful appearance by plumping and restoring volume to the labia. Labial puff is carried out by a female Dermatology Consultant, Dr. Susana Morris.
During your consultation your doctor will discuss different treatment options and recommend one or more dermal fillers to achieve the results you are looking for.
How long do Dermal fillers last?
HA fillers last from 6-12 months on average, depending on the type of a specific filler and the site of the injection. (areas that have more movement tend to last less than areas with less movement).
Why don’t you offer any permanent dermal fillers at your clinics?
We don’t use permanent fillers because they usually have a significantly increased risk of side-effects, since they are made up of ingredients, which cannot be broken down by the body’s natural immune system. The results of permanent fillers are often irreversible, and any mistakes, undesired results or reactions can only be corrected by invasive, often disfiguring surgery.
Most cosmetic practitioners worldwide use the safe HA (hyaluronic acid) fillers that are gradually broken down by the body.
